Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News 13.9.23

What a busy but wonderful week in Reception. Thanks to the parents who were able to come and look at their child’s learning so far this year on Thursday afternoon. We are looking forward to meeting with you at parent-teacher consultations next week.

Non-School Uniform Day: Friday 20th October

One of our parents at Chilton, is completing a Sky Dive in order to raise money for the charity SANDS, who support anyone who has been affected by the death of a baby or child. We would like to support in any way we can, so we ask that all children come to school in non-school uniform on Friday 20th October. In return, if you are able and wish to, we ask that to donate as little or as much as you wish to the just giving page below:

We wish Ms Bolton all the luck with her sky dive.

House point winners

We will find out which house has collected the most house points this term in assembly on Friday. We will share this with you via MCAS and social media. The winning house will have their non-school uniform day on Wednesday 18th October.

Phonics

This week we have continued our Read, Write, Inc lessons. This is the programme which we use to teach phonics. Throughout the year, the children will learn new sounds, will learn to orally blend, read words and write words. Throughout the first term, we teach the children Set 1 sounds. This week we have learned: m, a, s, d, t. Throughout these lessons we teach children how to say these sounds accurately, what they look like and how to write these sounds. Each sound comes with a phrase to help children remember how to write the sound. For this week, these are:

b – down the laces to the heel and around the toe

f – down the stem and draw the leaves

e – lift off the top and scoop out the egg

l – down the long leg

h – down the head to the hooves and over his back

Sounds books

Each week we will send home a pink sounds book. You will see the sounds we have been learning that week and ask that you practise these sounds at home. There is more information for what you can do on each page in the sounds book as well as the phrase for each sound. These books will be collected in on a Wednesday and will be sent home again on a Friday.

Maths

This week we have been learning to recognise numerals and learning to write the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 accurately. Through this learning, the children have been making their own numberblocks which they have loved!

Thematic Curriculum

In the afternoons this week, we have been looking at the artwork called Wheatfield with Crows by Vincent Van Gogh. We discussed what we liked or disliked about the painting and spoke about the colours which had been used. We then used paints to create our own version – they look fabulous! We then created our own art gallery in the classroom and evaluated our own and others work. Later on in the week, we learned about where foods (milk, eggs, bread etc) come from.

Dates to remember/reminders

  • Families are invited in to school at 3pm on Thursday 19th October to taste the bread which we will be making as a celebration of our On the Farm learning.

  • Please email a photo of your child at a special celebration (wedding, birthday etc) to your child’s class teacher by Friday 20th October so that we can use these to start off our new thematic learning after half term

  • Your child will be bringing home their love to learn books next week. The new task will be glued in. Please return books by Wednesday 1st November so that we can use these in our learning next term.

  • PE kits need to be worn in to school each Friday please.

Come Dine with Me

Now that all the children are settled into school life and in the full swing of the lunchtime routine, we would like to invite you in to come and have lunch with your child. This will take place on Friday 20th October. Team Cornflower will dine at 11.30 and Team Sapphire at 11.45. You will receive a message via MCAS with information about how to book. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Other information

  • Please ensure that children have a named water bottle which is already filled with water at the start of each day.

  • All clothing to be named please!

  • Please complete the WOW moment sheets regularly so that we can add these to the children’s learning journey books.
