Here we are at the end of another fantastic week of learning in reception. The weather is on the turn for the better, and it is bringing nothing but joy and giving us all a spring in our step!

Our plants in class are continuing to grow!  We enjoy watering and caring for them daily, and we have enjoyed creating some observational art from them too.

Thank you for your kind offers of help for our school trip. Both classes now have a volunteer to help on the day.

RWI

Thank you for your continued support with reading at home. The children are building speed and fluency daily, and this is helped enormously by continued practice. Next week we will not have group RWI, but whole class RWI. This will give us the opportunity to show off our skills and practice writing in a variety of styles. When writing we have been focussing on capital letters, finger spaces, fred fingers and full stops.

Maths

This week in maths we have been speedy mathematicians. To be this, we have had to remember and recall number bonds to 5. We practised this using numicon, then we had to remember them! (We could use our fingers if we still weren’t sure!) When our teacher called out a number, we had to quickly write a calculation to show which 2 numbers can be added together to make that number. Some of us could remember more than one way too! Using this knowledge, we linked our number bonds to subtraction facts. For example, if we know that 2 + 3 = 5 we also know that 5 – 3 = 2!

Next week we will be exploring the composing and decomposing of shapes. We will be able to recognise shapes within shapes, and describe their properties.

PSHE

This week in PSHE we continued our Be Here, Be You, Belong learning, moving on from celebrating our unique individuality. This week we explored what it means to be a part of a team. We listened to the story How the Crayons Saved the Rainbow. The crayons had to work together to reunite the sun and clouds, so the Earth could enjoy colour and rainbows again. We discussed that not one crayon could have done this by themselves, they needed to work together. We thought of times we have worked as a team, and what qualities we brought. Team Peacock created some amazing art in their house teams to create peacocks! They had to communicate and collaborate with one another to decide on their roles within the team. We are so proud of the teams, who worked together to create something special for our classroom.

Next week we will be exploring the importance of being a part of Team Chilton.

Topic

This week has been lots of fun exploring the lifecycle of a frog. Children made some fantastic predictions about the story Tadpole’s promise. However no-one predicted the ending to this sad story!

We learnt that a frog lays eggs called frogspawn which turns into tadpoles, which grow into froglets and eventually grow into frogs. Children created their own lifecycles through drawing and labelling the stages, then writing about them also.

Wednesday 10^th May- children will be invited to taste some of the foods from the Hungry Caterpillar story. If you have any questions or concerns, please let your class teacher know before then.

Reading afternoons will continue after next week’s bank holiday on Mondays at 3pm.
