One Childhood, One Chance

28th April 2023

How we've 'Grown' this week!

What a wonderful week of learning it has been. The children have been exploring all things growth and we have loved receiving the homework from you all. The efforts made have not gone unnoticed and we applaud you for getting green fingered and growing some amazing plants!

Can we politely remind all parents that in the mornings and afternoons, when picking up or dropping your children off,  please refrain from using the equipment in the sheds or around our playround, thank you.

Important information:

-If you have any superstar learner cards or book corner books at home, please could these be returned? We are running low.

-Reading afternoons every Monday at 3pm.

-5th May - red, white and blue day. Children are invited into school wearing these colours to celebrate the King's coronation.

-25th May - Viking games.

Phonics

We have been reading with the children in class and again want to thank all those who make efforts to read with their children regularly. We know it can be a challenge sometimes, but we can really see how reading at home is impacting their learning in school, so thank you. We are continuing to practice remembering ‘red words’ and also looking at sentence structures such as capital letters and full stops when writing.

Maths

This week, the children have been doubling numbers to 10. They have enjoyed making their own dominoes, folding butterflies and lady birds to double the amount of dots and using numicon to help count doubles. The children are super speedy at doubling numbers up to 5 using their fingers and have been challenging each other during busy time by asking their friends doubling questions.

Topic

The children have been immersed in all things growth. We have been focusing on how humans grow and what happens in different stages of our lives. The children have ordered pictures showing humans growth and have been writing about what happens in each stage of growth. Also, the children have been fascinated by our new class mates. We have had a very special delivery of caterpillars and we have been watching them grow, noting down information about what we have seen and what they are doing.

We hope you all have a restful weekend.
