Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 18th November

We are now fully in the swing of term 2, and the children have settled back in to the Chilton Way.

Phonics

We continue to learn in groups for RWI across the year group, and most children are now recording their learning in books. All groups will continue to consolidate set 1 sounds through a speed sound session focussing on one sound. Children practise recognising and writing this sound and some review sounds also. Some groups then practise their oral blending, and others are practising writing CVC words. Some groups are going to begin to learn RED words. These are words which have tricky parts to decode, such as the and my. Attached below is a copy of the red words children will begin to learn. We learn these words by saying, ‘You can’t Fred a red!’ We look at the parts of the word which can be decoded and which are being tricky.

Maths

This week we have been comparing groups using the vocabulary more, fewer and the same as. We viewed groups in different forms with cubes, clicky fish, numicon and loose parts. With our group or learning partner, we then counted how many were in each group to be able to compare. We then used stem sentences to compare, eg 5 is more than 3, 3 is fewer than 5.

Next week in maths, we will be learning about shape. We will look at 2D and 3D shapes, including their properties.

Healthy Relationships Week

This week we have focused on friendships. This started with a look at what friends are, why we have them and what we look for in a friend. Children thought of all the things they would like in a friend eg kind, loving, helpful, thoughtful and funny. We created a recipe of a good friend. We then looked at conflicts with our friends, these are normal and occur because we are all different. We all think differently and believe in different things, which can lead to disagreements. We talked about ways in which we can resolve such conflicts, such as taking turns, walking away or playing with someone different. This lead to learning about when conflicts need an adult to intervene, when someone is being unsafe or unkind (either by saying unkind words or hurting others). This is not telling tales, but keeping ourselves safe. We also spoke about having more than one friend, and joining play which interests us.

Next week we will begin our leaning about transport.

PE

A reminder that children should come in to school on a Friday in their PE kits.

Children should come in to school on a Wednesday in their school uniform, but with trainers.
