Our first full-time week in Reception.
This week, we have been making friends, enjoying exploring our new surroundings, being very creative with a range of materials and started learning sounds in Read Write Inc. The children have settled into the routine of school incredibly well and we are looking forward to watching them grow throughout their reception year.
Maths
In Maths, the children have been counting to 5. We have been using recourses, counting claps and stomps and learning rhymes to help us write numbers.
Next week, we will be learning how to recognise and use numicon and practise writing numerals 0 to 5. .
Read Write Inc
Read Write Inc has been a super success and we are very proud of the children’s learning, especially as it is the first week of Read Write Inc. The children have learnt the sounds m,a,s,d and t.
Next week, we will be learning the sounds i,n,p,g and o.
On Friday, we will be sending home little pink sound books. The sounds the children have been learning this week are in the book. We would like you to encourage practising writing the sounds with your child. Please can the books be returned Thursdays so we can put the new sounds in ready for the next week, thank you!
Topic
We have been reading the story ‘The colour Monster’ and discussing our feelings. We have zones of regulation in the classroom which the children can show how they are feeling by moving their faces to either the happy, sad, exited or angry zone. The children have been discussing who is important to them and have been making their family trees.
Important dates
PE is starting on the 23rd September. The children need to come to school dressed in their PE kits.
To end our topic 'Marvellous Me', children are invited to wear clothes to express themselves (e.g. bright colours, clothes which show what they enjoy etc) on Thursday 29th September.
Our next topic will be 'On the Farm'. To end this topic, parents will be invited in to school on the afternoon of Thursday 20th October to taste some bread that the children will be making. Any questions, please ask your child's class teacher. Many thanks.
Please do not hesitate to contact us, we hope you all have a lovely restful weekend,
The EYFS team.
