Weekly News 17.5.19
Wow! What an amazing time we had with Zoolab this week. We were so impressed with the children and how some of them showed such courage to stroke or hold the animals when we know beforehand some were feeling a little nervous! We met some amazing animals:
Shrek - this was a Giant African land snail. Some of us held him in our hands...he was quite slimy!
Millie - a Giant African millipede - she had so many legs and tickled our hands when we held her.
Tarzan and Jane - Madgascan hissing cockroaches
Fluffy - a tarantula (he had to be kept in his box!)
Cuddles - a scorpion, when you shine a light on him, he glows up (the adults were very impressed with this as well as the children!)
Hocus- an American corn snake (he was very wriggly!)
Please see the pictures below of the children with the animals.
This week in Maths, the children have been identifying odd and even numbers (they learned that even numbers can always have a partner and that odd numbers always have an odd one left over). The children have also developed their ability to count in 2s, 5s and 10s and have been counting objects arranged in to 2s, 5s and 10s.
In Topic this week, we have been looking at 'Zones of Regulation'. This is something which is new at Chilton. We have introduced the 4 different zones to the children:
Red - angry, mad, terrifed
Green - ready to learn, focussed, happy, calm
Blue - sad, tired, bored
Yellow -silly, excited, frustrated, worried
We have explained that the children may be in different zones over the course of a day. We have also been learning about how we can help ourselves if we are in, for example, the red zone and want to be in the green zone (e.g. counting to 10, taking some deep breaths).
Reminders:
PE kits should be in school at all times please (they wil be sent home at the end of the term for washing)
Water bottles should be brought in to school every day (especially as the weather is getting warmer)
Sun hats should be in school for the warmer days please
Any junk modelling bits are always greatly appreciated!
Many thanks for your continued support,
