Weekly News! 4.10.24
Another superb week in Year 3! Take a look at what we have been getting up to.
Firstly, thank you for your support and involvement in the Harvest Festivals that have taken place this week. Your donations were very welcomed by the Thanet Food Banks, so a huge thank you! Also, a huge congratulations to all of the children that read in the festival. We could not be prouder!
Guided Reading
In Guided Reading, we have continued looking at the book ‘Stone Age Boy’ by Satoshi Kitamura. We have been reading the story whilst focusing on fluency and accuracy. We then moved our learning on by clarifying vocabulary in the book by using dictionaries. We looked at vocabulary such as peering and beckoning.
Next week we will be starting a new book called ‘Lila and the Secret of Rain’,
English
Continuing with ‘Stone Age Boy’, we focused this week on developing our understanding of script writing. This week we wrote our own playscripts, ensuring we used all that was on the playscript checklist. We are so impressed with the children’s independent writing this week! Go Year 3!
Maths
In Maths this week we have moved on to subtraction. We recapped using subtraction using the column method. What super subtractors we have in Year 3! We used this learning to problem solve tricky calculations and test our subtraction knowledge!
Next week in Maths we will be looking at multiplication and division.
Fact of the week
Next week, the fact of the week is 2X7=14 and 7X2=14.
Thematic
In Thematic this week, we have been looking at how Britain changed between the beginning of the Stone Age and the Bronze Age. We used timelines and a range of sources to understand the changes. We looked at changes in weapons, metal, jewellery and agriculture.
Home Learning
In French this week, we have been learning the colours in French. For your home learning task, we would like you to recap your learning this week and represent your French colour knowledge in any way you wish! This might be a poster, labelling different colours or even learning a song. We look forward to see your creativity!
