One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News! 20.9.24

What a jam-packed week we have had in Year 3! We have created fossils, invited visitors from Monkton Nature Reserve into our classrooms and so much more!

Guided Reading

This week we have been continuing looking at the book ‘Stone Age Boy’ by Satoshi Kitamura. We have focused on answering questions about the text, clarified information that was in the text, acted out scene from the book and answered questions on a poem linked to the Stone Age. In Reading for Pleasure this week, we read Stone Age recipes!

English

Using the book ‘Stone Age Boy’, we focused this week on writing different sentence types to create an information text. This week we have looked at writing compound sentences using conjunctions such as so, and, but, because. We later looked at complex sentences. We learnt about a main clause and a minor clause. We used this sentence learning to writing information sentences about the Stone Age.

Maths

In Maths this week we have been focus on Addition by using the column method. We reminded ourselves of our Year 2 learning ensuring we kept the correct digits in the correct column. We practised column method and then used this learning to solve tricky addition problems.

Next week in Maths we will be beginning to look at subtraction using a number line to find the difference.

Fact of the week

Next week, the fact of the week is 5X2=10 and 2X5=10.

Thematic

We have had an exciting week this week in Thematic learning all about fossils! We started the week by inviting a visitor into our classrooms to tell us all about a variety of fossils, how they are created, where we find them and how precious they are.

We then used this learning to investigate the process of fossils in more detail. We created our own storyboard to show this process.

Home Learning

For this week home learning, we would like you to focus on number bonds!
