This week, the children have used their knowledge of World War II from their thematic learning to write a biography about Adolf Hitler.  Here, they further researched his life and wrote in chronological order about his life and impact on the world.  As a lighter end to the week, the children thoroughly enjoyed writing a narrative based on the BFG by Roald Dahl.  They read extracts from the book and watched a clip from the film adaptation that really made them laugh!  They used shifts in formality to write as the Queen and the BFG.  

Thematic

The children have completed their learning of Paths to Peace.  This has been an extraordinary topic where the children have built on their understanding of World War II and the effect it had.  This week, we refined our comprehension of developing and developed countries and drew a map of the world to highlight where these countries are.  From this, we could identify patterns and question what the human and physical factors are that contribute to a country's success.  Next term, we will begin a new topic called 'Light It Up!'

In PSHE, we discussed the notion of belonging, focussing on the school's motto of 'Be Here, Be You, Belong'.  After a long focus on SATs, we learned the importance that everyone is more than just that and the children explored and shared what their skills are.  They drew wonderful art pieces that highlighted what makes them who they are and this culminated in the parade on Friday.  We also read 'The Island', which is a book about 'acceptance'.

In RE, the children learned about Sikhism, specifically Sikh's principles and beliefs of looking after the community.  The children created a Venn diagram that showed how Sikh's care for one another - whichever religion people have, including how they open their gurdwaras to each and every one of us.
