Weekly News 22.03.24
We have had another wonderful week in Year 3 with lots of amazing learning taking place! Here is what we have been up to this week.
English
Our English learning this week has seen us writing diary entries as characters from the Faraway Tree. To begin we acted out different scenes from the Faraway Tree, considering what emotions had been felt and how the characters might react when feeling this way. The children then focused on using emotive language in their writing and had some great ideas such as livid, outraged, devastated. At the end of the week, we moved on to writing a postcard from the viewpoint of the children in the story to their parents about why they liked the Magic Faraway Tree. We were able to link our postcard writing to our previous weeks learning, thinking about our setting descriptions of the tree.
Next week, we will be moving on to writing recounts from different perspectives focusing on using verbs and adverbs to describe action.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been learning about solving word problems using addition and subtraction. The children have been incredible at highlighting the key information in the word problem and using their Maths vocabulary knowledge to explain whether the word problem needed an addition or subtraction calculation. To summarise this learning, we completed a Maths investigation looking at using inverse to check our calculations.
Next week, we will be moving on to solving word problems using multiplication and division.
Fact of the week
Next week our fact of the week will be:
9 x 5 = 45
Thematic
In our afternoon lessons this week, we have been learning about how the Romans changed Britain. The children learnt that the Romans introduced roads, public toilets and aqueducts into Britain and this influenced British life as it made things easier. We then moved on to look at the Romans influence on religion in Britain and the introduction of Christianity. We spoke about how this may have influenced life in Roman Britain and the children were very engaged with this conversation.
Next week, we will be finishing our learning on the Romans with our Roman day on Monday! Please see Other News for more information.
