Weekly news! 4.3.24
What a jam-packed week of learning we have had this week!
Maths
This week in maths we have been looking at measure focusing on length. We learnt that sometimes we may use mm, cm or m depending on the object. We learnt how to measure accurately using a ruler and learnt to measure in cm and mm! We then used this learning to compare and order different measurements.
Next week in maths we will be solving problems involving measure!
Fact of the week!
Next week our Fact of the Week is 2 X 5 = 10
English
This week we have become authors! We have been writing our very own information texts on frogs! We have written statements, asked questions that get the reader thinking, created illustrations and created captions for those illustrations. Later in the week, we shared our information texts with our friends. Amazing learning this week, Year 2!
Next week in English we will be starting a brand new book Surprising Sharks!
Guided Reading
This week in Guided Reading we used our comprehension skills of retrieval to answer tricky questions about frogs! We had to use our retrieval skills to find the questions within the book.
Thematic
In Thematic this week, we continued learning about Florence Nightingale. We learnt more about her life and put this information onto a timeline. Later in the week, we took part in a Florence Nightingale quiz to see how much information we retained. Please ask us about her because Year 2 are Florence Nightingale whizzes! We finished the week by becoming Florence Nightingale and writing a letter as her pretending we were at the Crimean War. A super week of history learning!
Art
This term we have been learning about printing! Last week we used our hands to print a beautiful flower into our sketch books. This week we created our very own stamps using natural objects and then experimented using different pressures to get the perfect print!
Next week we will be looking at creating printing stamps out of foam boards.

**REMINDER** World Book Day Thursday 7th March 2024
This year's World Book Day theme will be bedtime stories / reading for pleasure. We invite children to share their favourite bedtime story book on this day and if they wish, come to school dressed in their bedtime clothing! Children are invited to dress up as their favourite character from a book if they prefer another option. We would like to remind families that there is no expectation for you to spend money on costumes. An enjoyment of reading and sharing a story is our main aim for World Book Day this year.
The Chilton Masked Reader
This year, we will share Chilton Masked Reader videos for World Book Day. These videos will be created by our talented members of staff who will read a story without revealing their faces. We hope our Chilton families will enjoy the stories and guess who the masked readers are! Links to these videos will be available on all school Blogs.
