And just like that, another successful week of learning, fun and an array of wonderful discoveries from our children in Reception. We have seen a real enthusiasm for imaginative play this week, particularly after learning about superheroes. Reception have been using their imagination and drawing ideas from their ever-growing knowledge and with additional support from the adults, created some truly wonderful learning. By using pieces of materials as capes, string for lasers and making bubbles for snow, the children have excelled them selves in expressing their thoughts and ideas during their power play.
Phonics
We have continued to read 1:1 with the children at school and would like to thank you for your efforts with your home reading. We can see the progress and confidence blooming in the children’s reading which opens avenues for extended learning opportunities. We understand that it can sometimes be a challenging task to read with your child and are here to support you with this, please do speak to us if you have any concerns. ‘Reading should not be presented to children as a chore or duty. It should be offered as a precious gift.’ (Kate Dicamillo)
Maths
We have been discovering prepositions and using these to describe where things are. The children have been playing games, giving their partners instructions using the appropriate prepositions. Then, we made maps of the garden so that Supertato would be able to navigate around safely. The children have learnt, on, beside, in front, behind, over, in and out.
Next week, we will be learning about capacity.
Thematic Curriculum
This week, we have been reading Evil Pea Rules, the sequel to the Supertato book we read last week. The children used their understanding of feelings and emotions to express the way different characters would feel using their faces, bodies and voices. The children compared the books and discussed their differences and similarities. Then, we re-enacted the story in groups after making the vegetable characters.
Next week, we will be reading ‘Elliot the midnight super hero.’
