The children have come back and settled into school life so well! The start of Term 6 has been fabulous.
Read, Write Inc
The children have been continuing to work hard in their RWI sessions this week. When reading we have been encouraging children to spot the special friend in the word before sounding it out (Fred talking). For example in the word play, they would spot the ‘ay’ first, then Fred talk (p-l-ay) and then say the word (play).
In RWI, children read the same story several times. This is important as it helps children to become familiar with the story and the words and help to improve their fluency when reading. This is something we would encourage when reading at home too. This will really help with their confidence when reading and can also make answering questions about what they have read easier too.
In each reading folder, there is a sound card and list of red words. Any practise with these at home would be extremely helpful and support your child’s reading and writing at home.
Maths
This week we have been continuing our learning on addition and subtraction. At the start of the week, the children were learning to subtract on a hundred square. They were awesome at this! At the end of the week, the children were solving word problems involving addition and subtraction. They had to work out whether they needed to add or subtract, write the calculation and then solve the answer by counting forwards (for addition) or backwards (for subtraction on the hundred square).
PSHE
This week the whole school have been focusing on PSHE in our afternoon sessions. We started the week by thinking about how we can be kind to others and what kindness means. We spoke about what we need to do if we fall out with others and how our words can affect other people. We also learned about keeping ourselves safe and being kind when we are online.
Love to Learn:
This week we would like you to give your adults at home some word problems involving addition and subtraction. Can they write the calculation and then solve the answer?
For example: I have 15 marbles. 6 of them roll away. How many are left?
Other news:
PE for this term will be on WEDNESDAYS. Please note the change of day for this.
Sports Project will remain on Tuesdays.

Please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in our Chilton Heroes assembly and there are also individual class prizes to be won :)
Summer Fair information
We will be holding our annual school summer fair on Friday 23rd June from 3.15-5.oo pm. The event, run by our amazing Chilton Fundraisers, is a wonderful community event for all our staff and families to enjoy.
This year we will have a wide range of fun activities for you all to enjoy including;
Bouncy Castle, Inflatable bungee course, Go-Karts, Ice cream van, soak the teacher, beat the keeper, hook a duck, tin can alley, nerf gun target, raffles, tombola and much more.
As part of the event we need just a little bit of help from our families. On Friday 16th June, we will send a white bag home with each child. We ask that your child decorates the bag and fills it with some goodies (sweets, chocolates, books, pens, pencils, small games etc). Please can these be brought back into school on Friday 23rd June, to be sold at the fair.
On Friday 16th June, we will also be inviting the children to wear non-school uniform, in exchange for fair donations. We will ask KS2 children to bring a bottle for our tombola stall. Reception and KS1 children we ask that you provide 1 prize for our raffle. This year we are doing a rainbow raffle and ask the children bring a prize that matches their house colour e.g. red romans bring a red prize and so on. We will bundle your donations to make rainbow raffle prizes as below:
Finally, if anyone in our parent community would like to hold a stall of their own, whether it be to sell crafts, plants, cakes or anything similar please email Mrs Cheshire at hannah.cheshire@chiltonprimary.co.uk. We will be charging £10 a pitch.
