Week beginning Tuesday 13th June - Team Royal and Team Indigo
Welcome to Term 6. We hope you had a wonderful half term.
Guided Reading
This week in Guided Reading, we have started to look at the book ‘Grace and Family’ by Mary Hoffman. We started the week by getting to know the story by completing partner reading, this way we have built up our confidence to start to read independently. We have acted out scenes, hot seated and answered comprehension questions on the book.
English
In English, we have built up our skills over the week to write a diary entry as the main character Grace. In the story, Grace visits Gambia where her Papa lives. She explores Gambia with him, meets her new African family and even gets to stroke a crocodile! We learnt to write in past tense and to use rhetorical questions to make the reader think.
Maths
In Maths, we have been looking at finding fractions of amounts. We have used the method of sharing circles to help us to find the answers. Once we felt more confident with this, we used this learning to compare finding fraction of amounts such as ‘which gives you the greater amount… 2/3 of 9 or ¼ of 12’.
Next week we will be looking at statistics!
PSHE
In PSHE this week, we have been looking at the idea of ‘Your words can hurt’. We started the week by discussing how all words can have either a good or bad impact on others. We discussed a range of scenarios and decided which impact they may have. Later in the week we discussed the phrase ‘stop, think and speak’. We looked at some unkind comments and reworded them to make them kind. We ended the week by thinking of ways we can calm ourselves down if we have negative thoughts such has counting to 10, deep breathing, reading a book, going for a walk etc!
Thematic Curriculum
This week we started the brand new unit ‘Ready, steady, sow and grow!’. To start the unit we planted sunflower seeds! We discussed the process and why it was important that we used soil, water and where we place the seeds to grow. We will be tracking the sunflower seeds in a diary!
Love to Learn
This week for Love to Learn, we would like you to think about habitats!
Summer Fair
We will be holding our annual school summer fair on Friday 23rd June from 3.15-5.oo pm. The event, run by our amazing Chilton Fundraisers, is a wonderful community event for all our staff and families to enjoy.
This year we will have a wide range of fun activities for you all to enjoy including;
Bouncy Castle, Inflatable bungee course, Go-Karts, Ice cream van, soak the teacher, beat the keeper, hook a duck, tin can alley, nerf gun target, raffles, tombola and much more.
As part of the event we need just a little bit of help from our families. On Friday 16th June, we will send a white bag home with each child. We ask that your child decorates the bag and fills it with some goodies (sweets, chocolates, books, pens, pencils, small games etc). Please can these be brought back into school on Friday 23rd June, to be sold at the fair.
On Friday 16th June, we will also be inviting the children to wear non-school uniform, in exchange for fair donations. We will ask KS2 children to bring a bottle for our tombola stall. Reception and KS1 children we ask that you provide 1 prize for our raffle. This year we are doing a rainbow raffle and ask the children bring a prize that matches their house colour e.g. red romans bring a red prize and so on. We will bundle your donations to make rainbow raffle prizes as below:
Finally, if anyone in our parent community would like to hold a stall of their own, whether it be to sell crafts, plants, cakes or anything similar please email Mrs Cheshire at hannah.cheshire@chiltonprimary.co.uk. We will be charging £10 a pitc
