What a wonderful week we have had in Reception. Yet again, the children have worked very hard in all areas of their learning and have made great some great achievements- well done Team Reception!   Can we remind adults that children need to be in school uniform and refrain from sending in additional toys or hair accessories, it would also be very handy to have all names and cardigans named as reception like to keep us on our toes by misplacing them!

Please can we ask our lovely reception families to bring in large stones for painting by Thursday 18^th May-thank you!

Phonics

We have been enjoying our Read Write Inc session as a whole class this week due to SATS in year 6. The children have been practicing their writing skills by writing instructions on how to plant a bean, tying nicely with our topic learning. We have been learning red words and recognising these in written form in books and surrounding us in our environment. We made our own red word games and played these with our friends. Next week, we will be back in our groups as usual.

Maths

This week, The children have been learning all about shapes. We have been delving into how to make shapes using other shapes and concentrating on shapes properties to do this. The children are fantastic at recalling the sides and corners of shapes. They have been using mixed media to make shapes from other shapes and particularly liked using the paint shape stamps.

Next week, the children will be making repeated patterns in different forms.

Topic

We have enjoyed learning all about caterpillars. Whilst we have been observing our very own class caterpillars, we have also been reading ‘The very hungry caterpillar’ and trying the foods that the hungry caterpillar in the story tries. The children have been discussing healthy choices and were very good at trying foods they hadn’t seen before. We have been learning about the life-cycle of a butterfly and using this knowledge to help us predict what will happen to the caterpillars in class.

Next week in Topic, we will be getting our creative caps on and will explore the Artist Andy Goldsworthy who uses natural resources to make his masterpieces.
