Friday 5th May 2023
Year 5 have had another wonderful week of Term 5. Here is what we have been up to:
Maths
This week we have been learning how to divide larger numbers mentally using the distributive, associative and commutative law. We then moved on to apply our knowledge of multiplication facts to divide friendly numbers and interpret remainders when solving problems.
Next week, we will be returning to our learning on fractions to convert between fractions and decimals.
English
In English this week we have written a non-chronological report about wolves. We began the week by conducting research and planning our paragraphs, before writing these later on in the week. Within our writing, we have focussed on using technical vocabulary, formal language and compound sentences.
Next week, we will be focussing on using emotive language to write a monologue and a diary entry from the viewpoint of Torak.
Afternoons
Our afternoons have been very busy this week. On Tuesday, we had our French and Computing lessons, learning about school stationery and how to set commands on a computer. On Wednesday, our Geography lesson was about coastal features such as stack, arch, cave, stump, beach and bay. We are now coastal experts!
To finish the week, we completed activities as a team as part of our Be Here, Be You Belong unit in PSHE, before designing and creating a class flag that represented our interests and hobbies.
Next week we will be completing a study of coasts using the features that we have learnt about this week.
Home Learning
For Home Learning, we would like the children to visit a coast and make a list of the features that they notice, applying their learning from this week. This can be presented in any way that they wish.
