20th April 2023
Welcome back Team Peacock and Team Azure. We hope you all had a wonderful Easter break, it has been lovely seeing all the children and welcoming them back for our penultimate term.
RWI
This week the children may have started in a new group, or have a new teacher. Most children are learning and recapping their set 2 sounds and practising reading and spelling words with the sounds in. We have also been working on rhyming words, we listen to the words and work out which part needs to be the same to make it rhyme. Together we create rhyming strings and see how many words we can think of. It has been lots of fun thinking of alien words too!
Maths
This week in maths we have explored sharing between numbers. We learnt that when sharing, each group needed to get an equal number otherwise it wouldn’t be fair. Moving on from sharing, we explored odd and even numbers. EVEN numbers always have a pair so we count 1, 2 pair! If a number didn’t have a pair, it is an ODD number! The rhyme 0, 2, 4, 6 and 8, even numbers they are great. 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9, odd numbers they are fine!
Next week we will be learning about double numbers.
Topic
This week we had a PSHE lesson for our theme this term Be Here, Be You, Belong. We read the book Odd Dog Out and discussed reasons why we are odd dog out! This allowed us to explore our differences and what makes us special.
We then had a day when we learnt all about SPRING! We looked at the changes in weather spring brings, baby animals which are born and the variety of flowers and plants which begin to grow. Using daffodils, sunflowers and blossom, we created some art to represent these beautiful spring changes.
After this, we then began our new topic GROWTH! Thank you so much for the children’s amazing love to learn, we promise to keep up their hard work with growing their plants. We started our topic with a fun game of guess who, where the children had to guess the baby photo, this was lots of fun! We also talked about our family members and used the vocabulary older and younger to describe them in relation to us.
Next week in topic, we will be exploring the human lifecycle.
