This week we have continued learning our sounds. We continued our new books, learnt new vocabulary and worked hard with our spellings. Please continue to perfect your reading at home by practising spotting special friends before reading the word to make sure you are reading accurately. For an extra challenge, take note of the punctuation used in your books!
In each reading folder, there is a sound card and list of red words. Any practise with these at home would be extremely helpful and support your child’s reading and writing at home.
Every morning can all children place their reading folders inside their house trays in the conservatory please :) This helps us keep track of their reading and how many books they have read. Thank you.
Maths
This week in maths we have been learning to add with number bonds to 20, add one-digit numbers, using the make ten strategy and adding one and two-digit numbers by regrouping into tens and ones! What a busy week in maths we have had!
Thematic Curriculum
In History this week we learnt all about the explorer (and many other job titles he has!) Charles Darwin. We learnt all about his life and his time spent on HMS Beagle. We were really interested in his idea of natural selection and evolution. To help us understand, we took part in an experiment with tweezers ‘beaks’ to see why birds need to adapt for their environment when picking up different foods around them. Take a look at our wonderful work and see what we found.
We then did some amazing writing, when we made up our own discovered species! We used adjectives to describe what they look like and made sure we used finger spaces, capital letters and full stops.
World Book Day
On Friday we started the day with an amazing assembly, where some silly teachers read a funny story! We then looked at some animal poems, we discussed which ones we liked and why. We then had a go at performing them and did incredibly well! We then looked at rhyming couplets and wrote rhyming words on our tables! Teachers across the school swapped classes to read us a wonderful story! We had fun with Mrs Rowland-Hill (A Year 6 teacher! and Mrs Hall (A Year 2 teacher!) In the afternoon, we continued looking at our morning poems about animals and created some ants out of stick and ink and made frogs from glitter! What a great day we had!
Love to Learn:
This week we would like you to choose an animal and find out as must as you can about it :) This can be displayed any way you wish!
We would also love for you to read as much as possible please :)
