Love to Learn

There are two MyMaths tasks for the children to complete about this week's learning. Also attached is a list of the Year 3 and 4 spelling words. Please pick 10 words that you have not practised before.

This Week:

In maths this week, the children started off the week by looking at rounding. We rounded to the nearest 10,100 and 1000. We also looked at negative numbers, counting forwards and backwards into and out of negative numbers.

In English, the children continued to read the class text, ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ by Onjali Rauf.  In this book, the children meet a boy called Ahmet. He is a refugee from Syria and has just joined a new school. Throughout this week, we looked at what a refugee is, why people become refugees and finally looked at if it is important to help refugees. We used sentence openers, a range of conjunctions and appropriate vocabulary to create an information text.

Throughout Topic this week, the children continued to look at different genres of music. We created a timeline of the most famous genres over the 20th century and then wrote a piece of writing about what genre was our favourite and why it was our favourite. We also have begun to look at ‘Champions of courage’ and our champion is David Bowie, we will be learning more about him throughout the term!

Next Week:

In maths next week, the children will be working on decimal numbers. We will be adding and subtracting decimals up to two decimal places. Finishing the week by looking at two-step word problems involving decimals.

In English, the children will be beginning to look at persuasion.

In topic, we will be looking at science behind sounds and hearing. Firstly, we will be going on a sound hunt and exploring the different volumes of noises we can here. Secondly, we will be conducting our own experiment about what makes sounds with different equipment and finally we will begin to look at pitch.
