You are invited into our child's classroom in Term 3 to learn more about how we teach Punctuation and Grammar at Chilton Primary School.  These sessions will help you support your child's learning.

Come and learn with your child in their class!

Sessions are 3.15-3.45pm on the following days in your child's classroom:

Love to Learn

We would like the children to choose one musical genre and create a fact-file on this. They might like to research the history of this genre, why is became popular and artists that are best known for this musical style. They can be as creative as they wish. They might even want to learn a song and perform it in front of the class.

Please encourage your child to continue learn their times tables. We will be focusing a lot on the 6 and 7 times tables this term. We remind you that the Multiplication Check will be between Monday 5 June and Friday 16 June 2023. Therefore, the children will be required to recall their times tables up to 12x12.

This Week:

In maths this week, the children continued with understanding how to convert units of measure. They focused on converting units of length.

In English, the children started to read the new class text, ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ by Onjali Rauf.  The children wrote from the perspective of a new child starting a new school. They focused on using a range of sentence types for impact.

The children started their new topic, ‘Make Some Noise’. The children decided on a class playlist of their favourite songs and responded artistically to different songs and music genres using different mediums. At the end of the week, the children created their own mini bands and selected a genre of music that they attempted to recreate using percussion instruments.

Next Week:

In maths next week, the children will work on number and place value again. They will round any number to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000; identify and count in negative numbers and estimate and round numbers using measuring instruments.

In English, the children will use their understanding of the text and refugees to create an information text.

In topic, the children will create a timeline about music through the ages. They will then focus specifically on 20th Century music and think as to why certain genres have been more popular during certain periods of time.

In PSHE, the children will start their unit on ‘Champions of Courage’. Year 4’s Champion of Courage is David Bowie. The children will start by understanding who David Bowie is and why he can be considered courageous. After, in their next lesson, they will recreate some of Bowie’s famous iconic looks by using face paints. Please do let us know if your child has any allergies or reason as to why this activity may not be suitable for them.
