Weekly News! 5.12.22
We have had a fabulous week in Year 1, here's what we have been up to…
Read, Write Inc
This week we continued our Read, Write Inc. lessons. We have been trying really hard to apply our skills in our writing. We have been thinking about which sounds to use and what punctuation we need.
In each reading folder, there is a sound card and list of red words. Any practise with these at home would be extremely helpful and support your child’s reading and writing at home.
Maths
This week in maths we have been learning all about shape! We started the week by looking at 2D shapes. We were able to recognise many, and even say how many corners and sides they have! We then went on a 3D shape hunt outside - take a look at what we found! We then moved our learning on to matching shapes with their names and using our knowledge about 3D shapes to create towers.
Geography and Science
This week we created our very own rain gauges! We have placed them outside and have been checking them every day, to see how much rain we have had at Chilton. This information informed us to create our very own weather forecasts. We planned these in groups and performed them to the class. We used weather symbols, geographical vocabulary and talked about recent local weather. We then gave a forecast for today’s weather in each of the countries in the United Kingdom.
