Weekly News! w/b 21.11.22
We have had a wonderful and week this week, here has what we have been up to…
Read, Write Inc
This week we continued our Read, Write Inc. lessons. We have been focussing on our beautiful handwriting and making sure we use a capital letter at the beginning of a sentence and a full stop at the end. We have continued learning how to tick and fix our own spellings and are excellent at it!
In each reading folder, there is a sound card and list of red words. Any practise with these at home would be extremely helpful and support your child’s reading and writing at home.
Maths
This week in maths we have been learning about distance, height and length. We started the week by looking at some important vocabulary, including: distance, near, far away from, close, further away from, length, shortest, longest, height, tallest and equal. We used our vocabulary to describe how far we are from our house to the moon and school. We then took part in a range of activities, where we had to use the vocabulary further. Take a look at what we got up to…
We then moved on our learning to look at length and height. We had to compare items in the classroom and decide whether they were long, short, tall or equal. To end the week we used cubes to measure objects in the classroom, some of us even estimated how many cubes long or tall something was and check to see if our estimations were correct!
Geography
This week, we started off my looking at the 7 continents. We visited a class museum, where we had to visit each continent and add it on to our map! We loved feeling how cold the ice was from the Antarctica, and how the sand may have felt like in Africa. (Please ask us to sing you the 7 Continents Song! – we are so good at it!) We then learnt all about the equator and how those continents near the equator are hotter than the places further away from it. We ended the week by learning about the 5 oceans and making a wonderful class scrap book about our learning this week.
Nativity…
As you may be aware, we have sent those children who wanted to speak in the Nativity, words home for them to learn. We have also written what costume they will need. We are still organising the non-speaking roles and all children should know which character they are next week. Please could you let us know if you cannot find a suitable costume and we will try our best to provide one for you. Thank you in advance! We can’t wait for you to see our performance!
Next week…
Next week we will be continuing to work hard on our sounds, reading and writing in our Read, Write Inc lessons.
In Maths, we will be learning about measurement.
In our afternoon sessions, we will be doing Science and Design Technology. We will be designing and making products to measure the weather, so please do bring in some junk modelling materials if you can (the insides of loo rolls and kitchen rolls, and large plastic bottles in particular) would be great!
Love to Learn:
This week we would love for you to take a look at all the set 2 sounds and put them into a word. For example; ay – clay.
We would also like you to practise your sounds as much as possible :)
