Love to Learn

This week, we would like the children to investigate conductors and insulators. They should explain what a conductor and insulator is as well as provide examples of materials that fit into these categories.

This Week

In maths this week the children worked on finding factors of numbers. They used counters to help them make arrays in order to check their understanding. The children really enjoyed a maths investigation that they undertook this week where they were required to work systematically. Towards the end of the week, the children used arrays to assist them with the short division method.

In English, the children wrote their own ending of Iron Man. They chose to innovate a part of the original story to bring their own take of the classic novel. Some of the skills covered included: using a range of sentence types, using ambitious verbs and using expanded noun phrases.

In Topic, the children worked on using different scientific equipment to make circuits. They also learnt about conductors and insulators.

Next Week:

In maths next week the children will use known facts to derive facts involving three digit numbers. They will then move on to use the distributive property strategy to divide ‘friendly numbers’. Again, the children will add to their learning on working systematically by undertaking another investigation.

Next week, in English, the children will start reading a new class text, ‘Gregory Cool’ by Caroline Binch. First, the children will learn a little about Trinidad to understand the setting of the text. They will then write a description of a typical beach setting using descriptive language. Once they have understood more about the main character, the children will write a diary entry.

In Topic, the children will focus on Design Technology where they will be designing and making their own creation utilising electronic circuit equipment. They will then evaluate their creations.
