This week in Reception!

We have seen such creativity and imagination running through all areas of the children’s learning this week, long may it continue! The children have shown that something can be created from nearly anything they can find.  It is a real joy to see the children working as a team, we have seen pirate ships, buses, tractors, castles and dens made from wood, boxes and materials found in the school.

What have we been learning this week?

READ WRITE INC

In Read Write Inc, the children have been learning the sounds k, g, u, n and b. Using sand, rainbow pens and pencils, the children have been practising writing the sounds and learning about words that have the sounds in them.

MATHS

This week, our maths focus has been learning numbers to 10. The children have been practising writing the numbers 1 to 10 using special rhymes that help with the formation of the number. We have been discussing the importance of counting really carefully using our eyes to track when we count out objects. The children have done really well with making sure they check they have the right amount by counting out objects into a line. We have introduced Numicon to the children to help with their maths learning.

TOPIC

Our new topic is ‘On the farm’ which the children have thoroughly enjoyed (especially when they get to make the animal noises). We have been reading the story ‘What the ladybird heard’ by Julia Donaldson and have been making our own maps of farms from the ideas in the book. The children have enjoyed making ladybirds to brighten up our classroom and playground and have retold the story to their peers by acting and showing freeze frames of the story.

JUST A FEW NOTES

We are eager to create more wonderful imaginative play, so we ask if any parents have suitable items for junk modelling - please bring them to us!

The children have been going on 'autumn walks' collecting items around the school grounds. They have found pinecones, conkers, helicopters, leaves and many more. Please can you collect some autumn items outside of school and bring them in so we can use these in our learning-thank you.

Can we politely ask you to inform us if your child is going to After School Club at the beginning of the day, we know it can all be very busy in the mornings, but it helps make things run smoothly at the end of the day - thank you!
