Weekly news w/b Monday 26th September 2022 for Team Indigo and Team Royal
What a fantastic week Team Indigo and Team Royal have had. Take a look at all our wonderful learning....
Maths
This week in maths we have been focusing on addition using a 100 square and even challenging ourselves using a 200 square! We learnt to add a 2 digit number to another 2 digit number, by partitioning the smallest number first, we then added the tens then the ones.
RWI/English
This week in RWI and English we have been concentrating on our set 3 sounds and re-reading our sentences to check it makes sense. We have also been checking for capital letters, spelling mistakes and full stops.
Topic
This week in Topic we have been historians and learnt about people from the past. We looked at Quin Shi Huang who was one of the most important rulers in Chinese history. We learnt that Quin Shi Huang wanted to live forever and built his own terracotta army! We thought we would have a go at making our own out of clay!
This week we have also learnt about Florence Nightingale, who became a nurse and helped soldiers who were hurt in the Crimean. We looked at a timeline of her life and why she was called ‘The Lady of the Lamp’. Later in the week we also wrote a letter pretending to be a nurse during the Crimean War just like Florence Nightingale.
To end the week, we learnt about Martin Luther King and about his famous speech in Washington. We learnt about Martin Luther King’s dream and how it showed our school values of Equality, Courage, Respect and Kindness.
SPaG
This week in SPaG, we have been focusing our learning on common exception words. We learnt to read and spell some of our common exception words through word searches, bingo and our favourite lesson, becoming a word detective and going on a scavenger hunt!
Love2Learn
Sent home Friday 30th September to be returned by Wednesday 6th October
This week for your Love to Learn task, we would love for you to share with us who you are going to be dressing up as, for our people from the past day. You could showcase this in forms of drawings, photos, facts or even a poster! We will be sharing our learning towards the end of the week.
Harvest Festival
We have been learning two songs this week in anticipation for our Harvest Festival. We would love for you to practise the songs at home. Please find below links to the videos.
