First of all, thank you to all the amazing parents who made the effort to come to our ‘Temples, Tombs and Treasures’ exit point on Friday!
Team Topaz and Team Aqua have had a very exciting week! In English, we continued reading ‘Clockwork’ and recreated scenes from the book using drama. We photographed this and then annotated our scenes, writing using the narrator’s voice. We then had a very interesting debate on whether we could control our own future like Dr Kalmenius believes and plan and wrote a persuasive piece giving our thoughts.
In Maths, the children having been practising their addition and subtraction skills in different ways. We have rounded to estimate to help us with our answers and also been checking our answers using the inverse. We have also looked at different mental methods we can use to add and subtract and how some methods are easier for some people than others.
We have started our exciting new topic, ‘Material World’. We discussed our big question ‘Is plastic fantastic?’ and looked at both sides of the argument. Then, for our entry point, we used all the rubbish from one day of school to make models. These were to send a message to the rest of the school that we’re wasting too much! We also looked at a bicycle and why different materials were suited to different parts of a bike. We then discussed the effects of friction and tested out various surfaces using toy cars to see which surface was best to travel on!
For this week’s Love to Learn homework, we would like children to find as many materials as they can in their house and present their findings in a creative way.
There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!
As part of the NSPCC’s Number Day on 1st February there will be a break time maths themed cake sale! For your child’s home learning we invite you to design and create maths themed cakes to help with our cake sale. For example, different shaped cakes or cakes with maths related toppings -be as creative as you like! We ask, if you do this, that you bring these in from January 30th to February 1st to your class teacher or to Miss Lane’s Classroom (Team Indigo).
