Year 4 Weekly News - 20.5.22
We are already in Week 5 of Term 5! The weather has been fantastic and it has been great to do so much of our learning outside!
Maths
This week we have been looking at measure. We began by estimating length and developing our understanding of mm, cm and m. We used problem-solving to estimate different items. We then learnt about kilometres and developed a solid understanding of how to convert between metres and kilometres. We linked it to our understanding of fractions and decimals. Finally, we explored capacity. We used our knowledge of the relationship between m and km to convert l and ml. Friday was great fun as we made magical potions out in the Forest school!
Next week we will be looking at position and direction - we will be translating points and shapes on a grid (moving by sliding in a straight line)
English
This week we have been planning and writing our own magical stories. We are mirroring the 'Wizards of Once' and creating our own magical rival as the main characters. Our writing has been STUNNING. We will continue to write the story next week, making sure to edit and improve as we go.
Topic
Year 4 are such amazing scientists! This week we have been exploring changing states by heating and cooling materials. We have such a good understanding of evaporation and can articulate our reasoning perfectly. Mrs Barrow tried to show us her favourite puddle.... what do you think had happened to it?!
PSHE
We continue to spend time on our Be here, be you, belong theme and are now preparing for the big parade!
LOVE TO LEARN
Create a character description of the evil character in your story. Was it a dragon? A witch? An ogre? Here are your steps to success:
- expanded noun phrases to add detail to appearance
- verbs and adverbs to describe actions
- similes and metaphors for effect
The children have their weekly personalised spellings to learn at home and please continue to encourage your child to read - they are doing SO well!
