Team Cyan and Team Turquoise w/b 29th November
Wow, year 2 have had another fantastic week and they have produced some incredible learning.
English
In English this week we have spent another week focusing on 'The Gruffalo's Child' by Julia Donaldson. The children have loved reading this book and I am sure they can tell you all about it.
We began the week by continuing writing in present tense, the children imagined they were the Gruffalo and were being asked questions by a reporter about their missing daughter.
Later in the week, we started writing commands, sentences that tell you what do, for the Gruffalo Child. We then added time conjunctions to our writing, the children wrote fantastic instructions for how to make a Gruffalo pie and how to trick a Gruffalo.
Maths
In maths this week we have been focusing on statistics the children have been learning how to read and represent data.
We have learnt all about pictograms, tally charts, block charts, carroll diagrams and venn diagrams. The children were excellent at explaining what the charts and diagram told us about the data.
Topic
In topic this week we have been focusing on science.
We carried out two investigations to find out which materials are best for circus costumes and the best material for a big top to prepare use for our technology lessons next week. The children investigated which material would be waterproof and strong by testing several materials.
On Friday, we learnt about the artist Georges Seurat he created a painting technique called pointillism. We had a go at creating our own circus pointillism.
Love to Learn
This week for Love to Learn we would love to see the children's best stick men; we will be focusing our English lessons for the next two weeks on the book 'Stick Man' by Julia Donaldson. If your child would like an extra challenge, they can also write instructions of how to make a stick man too.
Reminders
Our Christmas party will be on the 15th December. Children can come into school on that day in their party clothes and can bring in party food! For the food, could we ask...
