Weekly News 5.11.21
What a brilliant week we have had welcoming the children back for Term 2.
Maths
This week in maths we have concentrated on fractions and specifically equivalent fractions. At the beginning of the week, we found equivalent fractions by shading a variety of different shapes. Moving to using a fraction wall and understanding that multiplying the numerator and the denominator by the same number will also result in finding equivalent fractions.
English
In English this week we have started our new book called Ice Palace by Robert Swindells. We have met a character called Ivan whose brother has been stolen by someone called Starjik. He has just left his house on a quest to find him. We concentrated on describing the setting of Ivan’s world and what could be in it. We used different vocabulary to show the change of mood and atmosphere that was created in Ivan’s world.
PSHE
Throughout PSHE this week we looked at a book called Shine. It showed a boy who was teased by a someone for being too tall, finishing with the boy being friends with the person that was teasing him. We looked at how that made us feel and what we could do in those situations. We also created some art work understanding that making mistakes is ok and it is good to learn from them.
Notices
Please encourage your child to read as much as possible at home - once they complete a book they need to do an AR quiz. Details of this have been sent home and have been on prior emails.
Next week we have a special guest coming to visit us on Friday. Zoe Antoniades, she is a wonderful author who is going to speak to us and give us a workshop.
Here is the link for more information on her.
