Weekly News - 16.9.21
Year 4 have had an incredible start to their school year and we are proud of their learning behaviour and the high quality work they are producing!
English
This week we have been working on building our vocabulary so that we can write emotive descriptions. We have practised using fronted adverbials to help us show how, where or when. We wrote fantastic descriptions of settings from our book, 'Gregory Cool'. We talked about the blistering sun, and the muggy, stuffy bedroom. We used similes to describe the crashing waves and bobbing fishing boats.
Next week we will be exploring persuasive texts, creating holiday brochures for Tobago!
Maths
We were seriously impressed by the children's ability to solve addition problems both mentally and using formal written methods. They were able to solve misconceptions and explain to others how to solve mistakes. Next week we will be learning how to use mental strategies and written methods for subtraction.
Topic
We are loving our new topic, 'Mi Casa et tu Casa' as we have been able to get out into the forest school lots! We have been bug hunting and become plant detectives! We learnt how to identify trees by their leaves and their bark. We realised that we have so many different types of tree in our playground! Next week we will be learning how to classify different animals.
French
This week we learnt the names of different animals in French to link with our topic learning! We love trying to pronounce each word properly!
LOVE TO LEARN
Can you use your new plant detective skills to identify different trees and plants in your local area? We have attached some helpful charts that you can use!
