One Childhood, One Chance

Friday 10th July

Good morning Team Teal and Team Periwinkle.

Its FriYay! The end of another week. Well done to you if you are completing some/all of the home learning tasks still. It is not long until the holidays so keep going! We hope that you are all happy, safe and healthy!

Here’s today’s learning:

RWI

The RWI videos will be available, but will take a slightly different form. All videos will be available from 9:30 am so you can choose from set 2 or set 3, whichever you feel your child needs to focus on. There will be reading opportunities for longer words and red words included in each session. Use the link below to find the lessons you need under the different categories.

You tube: Read, Write inc phonics video

If you would rather not use the videos, teach the lesson as follows:

1.   Find the sound ‘ew’ on your sound card and say it lots of times, make sure you are looking at the sound to ensure you remember what it looks like, also say ‘ew, chew and stew.’ Explain that these are chatty friends (two letters that make one sound but have to be separated by another letter because they talk too much!) When you're finished, point to some other sounds (about 10).

2.    Write down the following words for your child to read (chew, stew, flew, grew). Remember they need to find the special/chatty friends, Fred talk (say the sounds) and then read the word.

3.    Now write down some words for your child to read as a recap of previous sounds learnt (bake, flight, chime, bell, high). This time encourage your child to say the sounds in their head and then say the word aloud.

4.    Ask your child to show you their alien faces! Write down the words: chewp, flewg, mewk, shewm. Ask your child to spot the special/chatty friends, Fred talk and then read the word.

5.    Now it's time for spellings! One at a time say the following words to your read (chew, stew, flew, grew). Repeat the word back to each other then ask them to pinch the sounds. When they know how many sounds in the word they can write it down. Help your child to tick or fix (correct) their work.

It is also important for children to practise reading red words which cannot be Fred talked. These words need to be learnt by sight but can be done so through a variety of fun games. You could write some of the red words down on pieces of paper and play snap, bingo, put them around the room/ garden for children to run to when called out or children could practise writing them out in chalk, paint, sand etc. Knowing these red words will help children become speedier and more confident when reading.

English

Today, we would like you to choose your favourite story which you have at home. Read it together. Why is it your favourite? What is your favourite part?

Draw a picture of the best part of the book. You could label the picture with words or write some sentences to describe the part of the book you have drawn.

Maths

Let’s play bingo! Split a piece of paper in to 4 sections and choose 4 numbers from 0-20. A grown up will ask you some add and subtract calculations and if you have the answer on your piece of paper then you can cross it off!

This week, the children have been learning to divide by sharing and grouping. Today, we would like the children to solve the following calculations by sharing AND grouping. Remember that with sharing, they need to share the objects out fairly to the correct number of groups. With grouping, they need to put the correct number of objects in to each group. You should get the same answer whether you share or divide!

10 ÷ 2 =

16 ÷ 4 =

10 ÷ 5 =

9 ÷ 3 =

12 ÷ 4 =

20 ÷ 5 =

20 ÷ 10 =

Topic – PSHE

Yesterday, the children started to create a news report for how to stay safe online. Today, we would like them to complete this news report. You could film these and email them to us (we would love to see them!) If your child completed this task yesterday, they can create a poster to show how they can keep themselves safe online.
