One Childhood, One Chance

Monday 6th July

Good Morning everybody! We hope you had a wonderful weekend. Mrs Law has a busy weekend. Hope in Year 6 challenged her to complete the Viking Lockdown Games Triathlon. So here’s the evidence! 5k run, 5k walk, 5k bike ride. Mrs Law would like bonus points because it was very windy and quite early on a Saturday. Attached to today's blog is a message from Miss Knight about this weeks challenges. We hope you can try som of the challenges this week.

RWI

The RWI videos will be available, but will take a slightly different form. All videos will be available from 9:30 am so you can choose from set 2 or set 3, whichever you feel your child needs to focus on. There will be reading opportunities for longer words and red words included in each session. Use the link below to find the lessons you need under the different categories. You will also find a Hold a Sentence video to watch to help your child get used to remembering sentences which they wish to write down. Just scroll down as you would when selecting your sounds video and it is after the red words videos.

You tube: Read, Write inc phonics video

If you would rather not use the videos, teach the lesson as follows:

1. Find the sound 'er' on your sound card and say it lots of times, make sure you are looking at the sound to ensure you remember what it looks like, also say ‘er – better letter.’ When you're finished, point to some other sounds too (about 10).

2.    Write down the following words for your child to read (better, letter, bigger, stronger, longer). Remember they need to find the special friends, fred talk and then read the word.

3.    Now write down some words for your child to read as a recap of previous sounds learnt (joke, hear, girl, stand, brute). This time encourage your child to say the sounds in their head and then say the word aloud.

4.    Ask your child to show you their alien faces! Write down the words hagger, jimper, shugger, vasher . Ask your child to spot the special friends, Fred talk and then read the word.

5.    Now it's time for spellings! One at a time say the following words to your (better, letter, bigger, stronger, longer). Repeat the word back to each other then ask them to pinch the sounds. When they know how many sounds in the word they can write it down. Help your child to tick or fix (correct) their work.

English

Today we would like you to read the story 'Rowing Boats'. This weekend, we went out in our new kayak. Whilst we didn't fall in, like some people in the story, we did spend a lot of time spinning round in a circle, rather than going in a straight line.

Next we would like you to write about a day out you have had out with your family.

Maths

This week we will be learning about division. Let's warm out brains up first. Click on the random number generator below. For each number that flashes up can you say the number that is one more and one less than the given number.

Today, we will be dividing by sharing objects equally into groups. Have a look through the teaching slides for today below and the complete the division questions attached.

Topic

This week in Topic we are learning about online safety.

Show pictures of different digital devices. What are they? How are they used? What can you do on them? What is the internet? What can you do on the internet? Explain that one of the things we can do on the internet is to communicate with other people.  Model sending an email or text to a friend. Explain that this is the way that lots of people communicate. Explain that this is a safe way to communicate as we trust and know the people we are emailing.

ACTIVITY: Children to draw the people that they would trust to communicate with online. Discuss who the draw and whether it would be appropriate to communicate online with that person.

That is all for today. We hope you have had a great start to your week.

Mrs Cheshire, Miss Wright and Mrs Walker.
