Today (6.7.20) the video will be focusing on the sound ‘sh’. This sound is a special friend. We underline these to help us remember that they stick together.
After practicing writing the sound in your book, please then recap writing the sounds ‘z’ and ‘v’ just as we did last term.
Now can you try writing these three words?
‘ship’ ‘shop’ ‘fish’
Red Chilli
Say the sounds on the flash cards (homemade ones are just as great!) practice about ten of your sounds.
Your sound today is ‘sh’.
Now practice writing the sound ‘sh’ until you are confident in forming the sound. As you write it you can say the rhyme to help, Shhh says the horse to the hissing snake.
We are now going to read, hold and write a sentence.
Read the sentence:
He is in the ship.
Take it in turns to say the sentence to your adult and your adult to you. We usually do this 2-4 times each.
We need to start our sentence with a capital letter and put a full stop at the end. Use your signs when saying the sentence again to your adult. If you are unsure please watch the YouTube link attached to help you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hONRoyIwDws
Now watch your adult write the sentence, make sure you help them!
It is your turn. Write the sentence down in your book.
Read your sentence out loud to your adult.
Well done! Great writing.
Writing task.
Here is a letter to you from a famous pirate names Blackbeard.
‘Hello piraty friends, it’s me, ye old friend Blackbeard. I have a quest for you me hearties. This week you’re going on a mission to find an old friend of mine. She is a very special mermaid who has taken my favourite hat. I need you to write her a letter to find out where she is! Her name is Sally and she loves finding messages in bottles. So, once you have written your letter asking where she is, don’t forget to tell her that Blackbeard needs to know because I believe she has something of mine, then pop it in a bottle and send it to sea! Good luck me hearties’
Well that is exiting reception! Lets hope she finds our message so we can get Blackbeards hat back to him. Try writing your letter using the sounds you know but if you do get stuck, ask your adult to help you.
Maths
This week our focus is money. Why do we need money? Talk to your adult about what you think we use money for?

Yesterday you made sally a beautiful crown. She must have loved it as she has sent this message:
‘Hello again, it’s me Sally the mermaid.
I love the crown you made me and I can’t wait to wear it. I have a little problem, I have borrowed a few pirates’ hats and I’ve forgotten which one is Blackbeard’s. Could you send me another message in a bottle with a picture of Blackbeard’s hat and a few words to describe it, you could even write a few sentences if you like. Thank you, Sally.’
Maths
Using real money, 1p-£2 (or whatever you have in your home), see if you can draw around the money and write how much the money is worth inside your drawing. After, you could play a guessing game with your adult. Get your adult to hide one piece of money behind their back and describe what it looks like to you. See if you can guess the coin!

Well done for sending your picture and description of Blackbeard’s hat, it has helped Sally find the right one! She has given us the location she is going to meet us to exchange the crown for the hat. It is called Magistical Island. Apparently it’s the most beautiful island in the land.
You have got to design what you think the island looks like, and label important information about the Island so that Blackbeard can find it. Good luck me hearties!
