One Childhood, One Chance

Thursday 18th June

Good morning Team Teal and Team Periwinkle. We are so proud of all of you who are keeping up with some of your home learning. We know it can be tricky to learn from home and we really do appreciate all your efforts. It's nearly the weekend, but keep up that great work.

SHOUTOUTS

We had lots of fun making our feelings posters at school and it looks like you enjoyed them at home too! Well done to Jessica for her fabulous poster, maybe next time we get a little over excited we could try her methods to get back to green.

Elifsu has also been enjoying all our learning about feelings, she got so involved, she even changed into her emoji top!

Let's get learning!

RWI

The RWI videos will be available, but will take a slightly different form. All videos will be available from 9:30 am so you can choose from set 2 or set 3, whichever you feel your child needs to focus on. There will be reading opportunities for longer words and red words included in each session. Use the link below to find the lessons you need under the different categories. On the channel from Monday this week you will also find a Hold a Sentence video to watch to help your child get used to remembering sentences which they wish to write down. Just scroll down as you would when selecting your sounds video and it is after the red words videos.

You tube: Read, Write inc phonics video

If you would rather not use the videos, teach the lesson as follows:

1.   Find the sound ‘ew’ on your sound card and say it lots of times, make sure you are looking at the sound to ensure you remember what it looks like, also say ‘ew- chew the stew.’  When you're finished, point to some other sounds too (about 10).

2.    Write down the following words for your child to read (chew, stew, new, brew, crew). Remember they need to find the special friends, Fred talk (say the sounds) and then read the word.

3.    Now write down some words for your child to read as a recap of previous sounds learnt (fire, boat, fair, rain, joke). This time encourage your child to say the sounds in their head and then say the word aloud.

4.    Ask your child to show you their alien faces! Write down the words glewf, frewp, mewd, crewj. Ask your child to spot the special friends, Fred talk and then read the word.

5.    Now it's time for spellings! One at a time say the following words to your read (chew, stew, new, brew, crew). Repeat the word back to each other then ask them to pinch the sounds. When they know how many sounds in the word they can write it down. Help your child to tick or fix (correct) their work.

English

Click on the link below and read the book called 'At the Seaside'. It is an information book all about what you can do at the beach and how to keep safe. Once you have read the story have a go at making a poster teaching people about how to stay safe on the beach.

Maths

Warm up: Counting Tennis. Today you will be counting in 5's. You say a number and then your adult says one. Keep going until you reach 50. As a challenge you could start with 50 and count back to 0.

Let's start with a challenge following on from yesterdays learning.

I have one ten; 3 ones and 2 ones. What number do I have? How do you know?

Today we will be partitioning 2 digit numbers up to 99 into tens and ones. Talk through the teaching slides with your child. As your activity print of the number cards attached. Choose a two digit number and partition it into tens and ones. If you click on the link below you can use 'Dienes blocks' to show this number.

For example: 46 is made up of 4 tens and 6 ones. On the link I would need 4 ten blocks and 6 ones.

Topic

Today we are continuing our PSHE sessions by thinking about the term 'healthy body; healthy mind'. We will be discussing with the children how physical activity can support our mental health.

Remind children that we have been learning about our emotions and how to help ourselves get back to ‘green (feeling calm)’ when we are experiencing different emotions. Link to the idea that a really important way of helping ourselves feel emotionally ‘healthy’ is by keeping physically healthy.

Discuss what healthy means – talk about food, exercise, sleep and not having too much screen time.

Talk about the ways that children enjoy keeping active at home. Can they think of one thing they could try to improve on e.g. I’m really good at keeping active but I need to try and watch less you tube.

Activity: Engage in some ‘healthy’ physical activity. This could be yoga; just dance; outdoor aerobics class. Discuss how feel before; during and after the exercise.

In line with our work on positive mental health this week, the Duchess of Cambridge is leading an assembly for children about mental health. This is live at 11am today. Please click on the link below to watch the assembly.

In addition, if you click on the link below you will be taken to a handy mental health toolkit for children.
