Wednesday 17th June 2020
Good morning team Periwinkle and team Teal! It’s Wednesday which means we are half way through the week. The children who returned to school this week are settling well into their new bubbles and are enjoying their new style of learning. We’re super proud of all of you learning at school and from home- keep up the hard work.
SHOUTOUTS
Our shout out today goes to Preston- your maths work this week has been fab and your blooming confidence is so lovely to see.
Here’s today’s learning:
RWI
The RWI videos will be available, but will take a slightly different form. All videos will be available from 9:30 am so you can choose from set 2 or set 3, whichever you feel your child needs to focus on. There will be reading opportunities for longer words and red words included in each session. Use the link below to find the lessons you need under the different categories. On the channel from Monday this week you will also find a Hold a Sentence video to watch to help your child get used to remembering sentences which they wish to write down. Just scroll down as you would when selecting your sounds video and it is after the red words videos.
You tube: Read, Write inc phonics video
If you would rather not use the videos, teach the lesson as follows:
1. Find the sound ‘oa’ on your sound card and say it lots of times, make sure you are looking at the sound to ensure you remember what it looks like, also say ‘oa- goat in a boat.’ When you're finished, point to some other sounds too (about 10).
2. Write down the following words for your child to read (boat, float, coat, toast, road). Remember they need to find the special friends, Fred talk (say the sounds) and then read the word.
3. Now write down some words for your child to read as a recap of previous sounds learnt (yawn, inspire, chew, snail, play). This time encourage your child to say the sounds in their head and then say the word aloud.
4. Ask your child to show you their alien faces! Write down the words poad, floab, choag, poat. Ask your child to spot the special friends, Fred talk and then read the word.
5. Now it's time for spellings! One at a time say the following words to your read (boat, float, coat, toast, road). Repeat the word back to each other then ask them to pinch the sounds. When they know how many sounds in the word they can write it down. Help your child to tick or fix (correct) their work.
English
Today we would like your child to read the attached story Stop Telling Fibs. There are some comprehension questions at the bottom, feel free to choose the ones which match your child’s ability. Also attached is a writing prompt from the story. Encourage your child to think about what might have happened next in the story. Remember to use capital letters and full stops.
Maths
To warm up our maths brains today, we are going to continue to sing songs about our number bonds to 10. We really enjoyed this song in our bubble today… we hope you like it too.

Some of us challenged ourselves to use our number bonds to 10 to find number bonds to 20. If you’re feeling confident, maybe you could have a go at finding some too (eg using 5 + 5 = 10 to find 15 + 5 = 20).
We will be continuing with place value today but we are learning a new word… recombine. This is the opposite of when we partitioned a number. Today we are putting it back together again using the 2 parts we have. Use the teaching slides to talk through with your child then get them to have a go at the activity attached.
Topic
This week we have been talking lots at school about how the children are feeling and discussing the differences. These differences might be changes we see in ourselves during the day or differences to how others might be feeling. It has been helping us to express ourselves during this difficult time, we hope it is helping you at home too.
To start, take it in turns to act out an emotion for the other to guess, think about your body language rather than what you say.
Listen to the story of Lucy’s Blue Day.

Explain that it’s okay to feel all the different emotions but that we need to find ways to make our way back to ‘green’ (calm, happy, ready to learn). Take each emotion and discuss the ways we can help make ourselves feel calm again. Emphasise the importance of asking for help and talking about how they are feeling.
Your child can then choose one of the zones (not green) and make a poster to highlight ways to get yourself back to green identifying things to calm them, cheer themselves up etc.
We would love to see some of your posters so please don’t forget to send them in to your teachers.
