Home Learning - 22.5.20
Good morning, happy end of term 5! We hope you enjoy the half term, you have earned a restful break and some quality time with your family. What do you plan on doing this half term? Maybe you could write a list of things you are looking forward to! On mine would be:
Snuggling under a blanket, watching a film
Getting outside for some exercise in the sunshine
Taking a long walk on the seafront
…and staying up late in the garden, toasting marshmallows!
Let’s hope the sun stays shining!
Phonics
Each day of school closure, the Ruth Miskin team will be uploading a Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 Speed Sounds lesson video to Youtube. We will be following the Set 1 videos. These will be sounds that your child has learned in class already. You will be recapping these sounds at home which will hopefully give your child a sense of confidence.

Today (22.5.20) the video will be focusing on the sound ‘s’.
After practicing writing the sound in your book, please then recap writing the sounds ‘a’ and ‘z’ just as we did last term.
Now can you try writing these three words?
‘sit’ ‘sip’ ‘sad’
No-tech phonics
Alternatively, you can recap the sound ‘s’ with your child yourself.
Practise your Set 1 sounds using phonics flashcards (homemade ones are just as good!)
Now practise writing ‘sit’ ‘sip’ ‘sad’
Writing activity
Yesterday you made some invitations for Mavis’s party. Today you will be making a card for her. Write a message inside to her. To challenge yourself, write a poem for her.
Maths
Today we will be looking at taller and shorter (look at the picture attached). When you have answered the questions, see if you can find objects in your house that are taller and shorter than each other. Write down what was taller and what was shorter.
Maths Challenge
Can you write your own fact cards about what taller and shorter means?
Topic
At the beginning of the topic we measured our height, hands and feet. Find your recordings and compare your height, hand and foot size now. Have you grown or are they the same? Do you think you have grown this year? Do you think you will grow by the end of this year? How much have you grown between the beginning of term and the end of term?
Upload your results on padlet, or email to your teachers so they can see!
Check out our new 'Padlet' pages to help us stay in touch!
