Phonics 

Each day of school closure, the Ruth Miskin team will be uploading a Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 Speed Sounds lesson video to Youtube. We will be following the Set 1 videos. These will be sounds that your child has learned in class already. You will be recapping these sounds at home which will hopefully give your child a sense of confidence.

Today (20.5.20) the video will be focusing on the sound ‘m’.

After practicing writing the sound in your book, please then recap writing the sounds ‘m’ and ‘ng’ just as we did last term.

Now can you try writing these three words?

‘mat’ ‘met’ ‘mum’

No-tech phonics

Alternatively, you can recap the sound ‘m’ with your child yourself.

Draw a picture of a ‘Maisy mountain, mountain’ just like the one on the Read Write Inc flashcard.

Now practise writing ‘mat’ ‘met’ ‘mum’.

 

Writing activity

We have been following Mavis the Magical cat, and have finished the booklet. Well done for keeping up with Mavis, your learning Is superb. Today we are going to write her a thank you letter. Tell her what you enjoyed the most when learning with her. Remember to write your name at the bottom so she knows who it is from.

Maths Challenge

Write some shape facts down. Then play’ guess the shape’ with your adult. Tell them 2 facts about your shape and see if they can guess the shape!

Topic

Today you are going to create a ‘How humans grow’ poster. From the learning yesterday, draw and label what changes may happen to a human as they grow (e.g. get taller and get adult teeth). Think about what adults can do that you might not be able to do. Have you got a younger sibling, what can you do that they can’t do?
