Happy Monday, I hope you have had a lovely weekend. Here is your home learning for today:

Phonics

Each day of school closure, the Ruth Miskin team will be uploading a Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 Speed Sounds lesson video to Youtube. We will be following the Set 1 videos. These will be sounds that your child has learned in class already. You will be recapping these sounds at home which will hopefully give your child a sense of confidence.

Today (20.4.20) the video will be focusing on the sound ‘c’.

After practicing writing the sound in your book, please then recap writing the sounds ‘p’ and ‘s’ just as we did last term.

Writing task!

This week we will start a programme called Talk for writing. It is so important to entice children’s engagement and enjoyment for writing from a young age. This programme encourages children to talk and discuss ideas, growing their imagination and encouraging them to explore writing. 

We start with the story Mavis the Magical Cat (please find attached). See if you can try and read the story after your adult. At the end of the story there are some talk points that discuss events, characters and story plot. 

Have the best time reading this awesome story, and tomorrow we will look at our next task!

Maths

We will be looking at addition today. That is when we add two amounts together and find the total. At school, we used our counters, blocks and frogs to help us do this. But today, you are going to use your own toys! 

Gather some of your toys. Start with your favourite toys and put some in one pile and some in another pile. Count how many you have in each pile carefully. You could write the number of toys down on a piece of paper to remember how many are in each pile. Now it is time to find the total, how many you have all together. Count ALL of your toys in front of you. This is your answer! Now you can try with different toys in each pile. Try putting more or less in each pile and see how many you can do! Can you write the number sentence in your book?

Challenge

Get your thinking brains turned on to MAX! Your challenge is to see if you can use the counting on method to help you add your amounts together (See the counting on method explained here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wR4rJM_M_s).

You can use this to help you add your amount of toys. 

Topic

It is super exiting that our Topic this term is Growth, and a wonderful time of year to see things growing all around you! We have a song to learn today and it’s all about plants growing. The PowerPoint with the song is attached, so get your selves singing!
