Term 5 Home Learning! 16.4.20
Term 5 Home Learning. Thursday 16th April 2020.
Welcome back to Term 5 Chilton Heroes! We hope you had a wonderful Easter filled with fun, family and chocolate! We certainly did.
Here are your challenges for home learning today:
Phonics:
Each day of school closure, the Ruth Miskin team will be uploading a Set 1, Set 2 and Set 3 Speed Sounds lesson video to Youtube. We will be following the Set 1 videos. These will be sounds that your child has learned in class already. You will be recapping these sounds at home which will hopefully give your child a sense of confidence.

Today (16.4.20) the video will be focusing on the sound ‘n’.
After practicing writing the sound in your book, please then recap writing the sounds ‘m’ and ‘a’ just as we did last term.
Now can you try writing these three words?
‘net’ ‘tin’ ‘pin’
Maths:
We are going to kick off the term with some number recognition activities. Start with numbers 1-10 and then move onto 10-20 if your child is ready.
Practical games:
- Create flashcards with numbers on them. Take turns with your child playing the ‘teacher’. How many numbers can you get in 30 seconds?
- Take on old egg box and write a number in the bottom of each egg holder. Use small objects (beads, pebbles, lego, buttons, peas…) to fill each section with the correct number.
Online games:
- https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/teddy-numbers - Recognise the number and give the teddy that many Easter Eggs.
- http://media.emgames.com/emgames/demosite/playdemo.html?activity=M1A042&activitytype=dcr – Spin the spinner and move the counter. Can you beat the computer?
Challenge: Go on a number hunt. If you go out for a daily walk, take a notepad with you. In it, write numbers 0-9. Each time your child spots a number (on houses, cars or wheelie bins) they can give it a tick in their notepad. Which number did you see the most?
Topic:
This term our topic is GROWTH!
Miss Miles and Miss Dudley Smith are busy growing plants at their houses to show you on our padlet blogs. Keep a look out for our plant updates! If you are growing something at home we would love to see the progress of your plant on padlet too.
Vocabulary:
It is important when learning a new topic that we teach the children the vocabulary that they will need to access the information we are telling them. We have attached a vocabulary sheet with pictures of each word for you to look through with your child. If you have some plants at home you could do this practically.
Today we would like you to look at your own growth. Since we met you last year, you have grown so tall! Today please measure your height, the size of your hand and the size of your foot. You can do this with a tape measure, by having a grown up mark your height on a chart, by cutting a piece a string to same height as you or just by taking a photo of you next to something that will not change height like a door. To measure your hands and feet you could draw around them in your book. Don’t forget to mark the date. At the end of the term we can do this activity again and see how much you have grown.
Check out our new 'Padlet' pages to help us stay in touch!
