A short but exciting week for year 3. Lets have a look at what we’ve been learning.A short but exciting week for year 3. Lets have a look at what we’ve been learning.
English
This week we have been writing lots of funny poems and sentences, investigating how language can be used in different ways. The children created some hilarious nonsense poems on Monday, using their knowledge of rhyme to follow the poems rhyming pattern. We then learnt how to make choice with our words to create the best effect. The children were very imaginative and created nonsense sentences such as ‘the cow ice-skated on a block of cheese!’
Next week we will be focusing on dialogue.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been identifying amounts of money using pence and pounds. We moved on to comparing amounts of money and making an amount in different ways. We found that there can be multiple ways to make an amount. On Friday, we carried out our own Maths investigation where we had to work backwards and use the inverse of operations to find a secret number! We made secret number games for our partners and they had to calculate the answer.
Thematic
For our thematic learning, we have started our new design and technology segment of learning. We recapped our magnet learning from Science and then designed and made our own magnet games – the children were super creative and designed and created some amazing products!
Love to learn
READING: Children in Year 3 are expected to read at home at least three times a week. It is really important that the children bring in their reading records daily so we can check in with progress and read with the children in school. MyOn is a great way for children to read independently. Once a book has been read on MyOn, it will ask you to quiz and direct you to the AR website. Please read as often as possible at home. Thank you for your support
