One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News

See what Year 4 have been up to this week!

Weekly News 10th May 2018

In our Maths lessons this week, we have been consolidating our multiplication and division skills. We have worked on our times tables, multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 using a range of methods and multiplying decimals using a range of methods.

In English, we have started our exciting new book ‘The Watertower’. We made predictions, questioned and wrote poems in our Guided Reading lessons. In English, we worked on using vocabulary to set tone in our writing and also using vocabulary to infer things about our characters to the readers.

We have resumed our ‘Active Planet’ topic (thank you to the wonderful volcanoes that have been brought in!) and spent time researching the destruction of Pompeii in 79AD outside in the forest school. We then wrote an eyewitness account of Mount Vesuvius’ eruption in role. We have also continued working on our ‘Good to be Me’ unit and completed a lovely piece of work where everyone in the class wrote a kind thought about each person. Team Topaz also linked GTBM with their computing unit by creating self portraits on Paint.

Team Aqua and Team Topaz have continued working on their Friday afternoon drama performance.

Home learning:

There is no right or wrong way to complete a Love to Learn task! Please be as imaginative or as creative as you would like! Love to Learn tasks should be returned on the Wednesday following them being set. Whilst books may not be formally marked, in class we will spend time looking at and enjoying what everyone has learned at home and rewards and house points will be given!

“My Home Town” – home learning task

Where we grow up plays a huge part in our lives – shaping who we are, what we do, who we know and where we go! For your home learning project for ‘Good to be Me’, over the course of Term 5, we would like you to create something that tells us all about what ‘My Home Town’ means to you. This home learning can take any form – there is no right or wrong way but you can be as creative as you like!

There is also a MyMaths task set, due Weds 15th May.
