The children have been full steam ahead with Christmas activities galore, enjoying some festive fun in the last week of term. We would like to congratulate the children on all their hard work and efforts in their learning this term and thank you all for your continued support with the children’s home learning. Thank you for all the Christmas wishes cards and presents, we are all very grateful. We hope you have a tremendous Christmas and a happy new year!

 

Phonics

This week, we have had our last sessions in our current groups. The children may be changing groups next term to best suit their need in Read Write Inc. We have been playing oral blending Christmas games and focusing on bringing sounds together to form words. The children have worked hard at forming set 1 sounds and writing their names independently, remembering capital letters at the beginning and lower case for the rest.

 

Maths

This week, the children have enjoyed getting crafty during their maths using 2D shapes to make Christmas pictures of Christmas tree and snowmen. The children have been revising the names of these shapes and thinking carefully about their properties. Also, we have been making some beautiful, repeated AB and ABC patterns on wreaths, Christmas lights and gingerbread.

 

Thematic Curriculum

We have been exploring all things ‘Winter’ this week. The children have been learning about the season and the changes we will see around us. The children learnt about hibernation, and we sang a very wintery song about keeping warm in winter.

Love to Learn

Your child will soon be bringing home their love to learn with a new task glued in. So that you have ample warning, the love to learn task is:

At the start of next term our topic will be superheroes!  Your challenge over the holidays is to create your very own superhero, deciding what your outfit would look like and what your superpowers would be.  We would like you to draw your superhero in your love to learn book with labels and maybe a brief description of what your superhero is like.  For example, Mrs Cotton could be Goggle Girl, with the superpower of making all children like swimming.  Her cape could be blue with a pair of goggles drawn on the back. On Monday 8th January we will be asking the children to come to school dressed as the superhero they have created (the staff will all be dressing up as well). The costume can be as simple or as elaborate as you would like (we would like you to use resources which you have at home, rather than spending money). We hope you all have a wonderful break and we look forward to seeing your designs.

Reminders

Monday 8^th January - Year R superhero dress up day, please dress up as your own superhero.

PE kits need to be worn in to school each Friday please.

Please ensure that children have a named water bottle which is already filled with water at the start of each day.

All clothing to be named please!

Please complete the WOW moment sheets regularly so that we can add these to the children’s learning journey books (please do not put these in love to learn books).
