Love to Learn

There are two MyMaths tasks for children to complete.

Can you pick 10 words from the spellings below that you HAVEN’T practiced before.

This Week:

In maths, the children have been working on fractions. We began the week by looking at equivalent fractions and ended the week by working on comparing fractions with the same denominator and different denominators.

In English, the children began reading their new books called ‘Ice Palace. We have met the character called Ivan who is a young boy who has his brother kidnapped by an evil character called Starjik. We used figurative language to describe Ivan’s world and how he reacted when his brother was taken.

We began our new topic for this term called ‘Walk Like an Egyptian’. On Thursday, we had lots of Egyptian artefacts out across the classrooms and took it in turns to have a look and really gather interest in the topic. The children loved it! We also began to learn about how and why rivers are important to people.

Next Week

In maths, are going to continue with working on fractions. They are going to start the week with comparing fractions again, then move on to simplifying and then finishing with adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator.

In English, we are going to continue with our new book but we will be looking at. We will look at building tension and learn how to vary our sentences to speed up and slow down action. We will build our narrative writing skills alongside learning our text.

In Topic, we will be looking at the geography and history of the River Nile, exploring what life as like in ancient Egypt when living close to the Nile. We will also go into more detail about the history of why it is was so important to ancient Egyptian people.
