Friday 23rd September
Week 3 and Year 5 are still going strong. Here is what we have been up to:
Maths
This week in maths, we have been learning how to multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000. We have been using place value sliders to aid us and noticing patterns in the place value to answer some of our questions.
Next week, we will be looking at more formal methods of multiplication and division.
English
Year 5 have produced some wonderful work in English this week. We have been continuing on our learning journey of non-chronological report writing. We continued our research on Antarctica, focusing on it history and gathering some fun facts about the continent. After writing these paragraphs in our English books, we created a report combining all of the writing we have done over the past two weeks.
Next week, we will be writing newspaper reports about Shackleton’s impending voyage to Antarctica.
Topic
In Topic this week, we have been learning about latitude and longitude and its importance when finding a location on a globe. We have continued our geographical journey of Antarctica by gathering facts about the continent and completing a ‘Find Someone Who’ sheet to prove our knowledge. Finally, we compared coastal and inland Antarctica, look at the way the climate has shaped the landscape of these areas.
Next week, we will be continuing to look at the geography of Antarctica, comparing the weather patterns to the UK and considering the difficulties faced when travelling through the hazardous continent.
Home Learning
For home learning this week, we would like you to log on to My Maths, and attempt some of the tasks.
