We have had a fun filled week in Year 1 this week! Take a look at what we have been up to…
Read, Write Inc
This week continued our Read, Write Inc. lessons. We are working so hard and really focussing on our red words.
In each reading folder, there is a sound card and list of red words. Any practise with these at home would be extremely helpful and support your child’s reading and writing at home.
Maths
This week in maths we started off the week learning about odd and even numbers. We know that if a number can’t be paired up with a friend (In twos) it is odd and if it can, it is even. We then moved our learning on to adding with number bonds within 10, we know many number facts such as; 2+3=5 and 4+1 = 5. We then started looking at number bonds to 10, we are brilliant at these! Take a look at how hard we’ve been working.
Topic
This week in Topic, we started the week with a visit from some real life nurses! They told us all about what they do, what the hospital is like and how they help others. We had fun trying on bandages, using a stethoscope and making sure our friends were ok.
We then learnt all about Mary Seacole, who broke social rules and prejudices to travel the world, run businesses and help those in need – even in the most dangerous places. We discussed how hospitals have changed from the past and how Mary Seacole used many herbal remedies to help others. We looked at many of the ingredients Mary used, and we even added some extracts to play doh, which we smelt and role-played with.
We ended the week looking at many other jobs from the past, some of which do not exist any more. We discussed why they didn’t exist any more and which one we would have liked to have been/done in the past.
Next week:
Next week we will be continuing to work hard on our sounds, reading and writing in our Read, Write Inc lessons.
In Maths, we will be continuing our learning of number bonds to 10, investigating all possible sets of two numbers to make a given number and partitioning numbers into part, part, whole.
In Topic, we will be focussing on Art. We will be learning about Kandinsky and Frank Bowling and learning where they are from. We will be looking at the differences and similarities between them and writing our likes and dislikes.
Love to Learn:
This week we would love for you to find out about one job from the past, which does not exist now?
We want to know what they had to do and why it doesn’t exist now.
This can be recorded in any way you wish.
