What a wonderful week Team Indigo and Team Royal have had. Take a look at what we have been learning.

 

Maths

This week in maths we have been focusing on place value. In particular we have looked at comparing, recombining and ordering numbers. We used base 10 to create our numbers and found that 10 ones can make one 10. This helped us when it came to counting bigger numbers. We were then able to count the tens and add on the ones. For example, 3 tens and 5 ones = 35.

Later in the week we looked at ordering numbers from smallest to biggest and used a 100 square to support our learning.

We introduced to the children greater than and less than using Charlie the Crocodile who loves to eat the biggest numbers.

 

RWI/English

This week in RWI and English we have been concentrating on our set 3 sounds and re-reading our sentences to check it makes sense. We have also been checking for capital letters, spelling mistakes and full stops.

 

Topic

This week we started our Topic Time Travellers. We looked at different times in History and with our partners sorted them into most exciting to least exciting. We then wrote and explained why we would like to visit these times in History.

 

For our Art Part we looked at silhouette paintings and looked at the Artist Charles Burns. We then made our own silhouette artwork.

 

Later in the week we looked at The Great Fire of London. We read part of Samuel Pepys diary and we discovered the Great Fire of London started in Pudding Lane at a Bakery. It began on 2 September 1666 and lasted just under five days. One-third of London was destroyed. We looked at Tudor Houses and found that they were made out of wood and straw which made the fire spread so quickly. We imagined we were in London during the Great Fire of London and we used our senses to describe what we could see, hear, smell, taste and touch.

 

SPaG

The children have been introduced to our new lesson SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar). This week we have been looking at lower- and upper-case letters and the days of the week.

 

Love2Learn

Sent home Friday 16^th September to be returned by Wednesday 21^st September

This week for your Love to Learn task, we would love for you to record all the numbers in your environment. This could be in your home and when you are out and about. Your Challenge! We would like you to write the number in written form. We will be sharing our learning towards the end of the week.

Reminder

On Monday 19^th September the school will be closed to pay our respects to Queen Elizabeth 11. We look forward to welcoming you all back on Tuesday 20^th September. 

 

Other News

Monday is our Sports Project day. Please can children still wear their full school uniform with trainers.

Tuesday is our P.E day. Please can the children come to school in their P.E kit. Just a reminder this should be blue or black shorts/trousers and a plain white top.

 

Doors will continue to open in the morning at 8:30am. Registration will be at the slightly earlier time of 8:45am (doors close at this time).

 

As the weather is beginning to get colder please can children bring in a coat which is clearly named.

We are also fortunate enough to have a woodland area at school where we can learn and explore and a playground that can accumulate many puddles. Please if you can, could your child bring in wellies that are named in a bag. We have facilities where they can be kept at school.

 

Read at 3

Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and adults that were able to attend last week's Read at 3 with the children. It was lovely to see you all and hear everyone read. We welcome you all to come to hear your child Read at 3 if you can every Wednesday. Please note this is for the full 15 minutes and children will be unable to leave any earlier. The children will be ready for you to come and hear their wonderful reading at 3.

 

Key dates to remember:

Friday 14^th October – We would like to invite the children to come into school dressed as someone from the past. These costumes can be completely homemade and there is no pressure to but a costume at all. We will be dressed in homemade outfits ourselves.

 

Additionally, on Friday 14^th October we would like to invite you to our assembly where we can show you all what we have been up to. More details to follow shortly.
