What a week it has been! The children have been amazing and have continued to work so hard all week!
English
Throughout our English this week, we have continued our book and read chapter 2 of ‘The Iron Man’. This week we met a boy called Hogarth who was out fishing and saw the Iron Man. However, none of the farmers believed him and his father until one morning all of the farmers tractors had been eaten. This made the farmers hatch a plan to try and catch the Iron Man. In our writing this week, we wrote recounts. At first, we wrote a diary entry from Hogarth using first person and past tense. Then, we wrote as the farmer using conjunctions and emotive language.
Maths
During Maths this week, we concentrated on adding. We began by using resources and manipulatives to help us. This showed us how to add and regroup physically with concrete resources. It really helped the children vision what they had to do! We then moved on to the column method, adding up to 4-digit numbers using regrouping.
Next week we are moving on to subtraction!
Topic
We started our first topic of the year this week called Inventions! We started the week by researching and finding about all the different things that had been invented in the classroom. Children researched IPADS, interactive whiteboards and lots of other things! Throughout the week, we began looking at the golden age of Islam. We looked at the history of different inventions and how we still use some of their ideas today. We finished the week by creating our own camera obscura that was invented in the golden ages!
LOVE TO LEARN
Throughout the week, we looked at column method. Can the children complete 6 3- or 4-digit addition calculations? Challenge yourself!
