What a wonderful week we have had! Have a look at what we have been up to in Year 1…
Read, Write Inc
This week continued our Read, Write Inc. lessons. We have settled in well to our new groups and are working extremely hard!
You may have noticed in each reading folder, there is a sound card and list of red words. Any practise with these at home would be extremely helpful and support your child’s reading and writing at home.
Maths
This week in maths we used symbols and words to compare numbers and quantities. We know that the crocodile ALWAYS eats the biggest number! We have also been matching numbers with their quantities, identifying numbers on a number line and representing, reading and writing numbers to 20. Take a look at our wonderful maths learning!
Topic
This week we started our wonderful topic… When I grow up. We all came in dressed up as what we wanted to be when we are older. We discussed what we thought was the most important job in the world and used our oracy skills to present our thoughts to the class. We then created our own self-portraits for our Art Part. We looked at how to draw self-portraits, thought about the shapes in our faces and which features stand out, making us unique. Take a look at our awesome art work! We then learnt all about Amelia Earhart and Neil Armstrong. We used key vocabulary such as; ‘In the past…’ We are already enjoying our first ever topic in year 1!
Next week:
Next week we will be continuing to work hard on our sounds, reading and writing in our Read, Write Inc lessons. In Maths, we will be learning to identify odd and even numbers, adding with number bonds within 10 and learning our number bonds to 10. In Topic, we will be enjoying a visit from a nurse, where we will be interviewing them! Learning about Mary Seacole and comparing nurses and hospitals from the past to the present. We will also learn about a range of jobs from the past and discussing why they do not all exist any more.
Love to Learn:
This week we would love for you to match the numbers 1 to 20 to objects around the house (The quantity) For example; you could find 1 apple, 7 grapes or 20 pieces of lego! This can be recorded in any way you wish. I.e. photos, pictures or writing.
Other news:
School will be closed on Monday 19th September due to Her Majesty's State Funeral.
Tuesday will be the Sports Project day. Children will need to wear full school uniform this day with trainers.
Thursday will be PE day. Please can the children come into school in their PE kit. Just a reminder this should be blue or black shorts/ trousers and a plain white top.
Doors will continue to open in the morning at 8:30am. Registration will be at the slightly earlier time of 8:45am (doors close at this time)
Every Friday at 3 – Our doors will be open for you to come in and read with your child, please note, this will be for the full 15 minutes and children should not leave any earlier. Their books will be set up and ready for you to come in and enjoy listening to their wonderful reading J This will start from Friday 16th September.
Please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in our Chilton Heroes assembly and there are also individual class prizes to be won :)
Mrs Howard will be teaching Team Topaz on a Wednesday and Team Aqua on a Thursday.
