Chilton Primary School

One Childhood, One Chance

Weekly News w/b Monday 3rd September

Wow, what a superb first week back Team Royal and Team Indigo have had! Take a look at what we have been getting up to.

Chilton Values

Learning this week has been all around our school values of courage, kindness, respect and equality. We focussed our learning on a book called Rufus Goes to School.

Please find a link to the book –  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJwu00dSiOU

We have used the book to explore our values by writing letters to the Principal, thought about how poor Rufus was feeling throughout the booked linked to our coloured zones of regulation and considered different scenarios on how we could have helped Rufus by considering manners and kindness.

In the afternoons, we have been exploring the book The Dot.

Here is a link to the book – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpmNXbkLu6c

Here is a link to the song we have been learning. Please note we have been teaching the children to sing with an English accent and not the American accent e.g. matter and splatter! -https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_I43cxDQ-o

We took inspiration from Vashti in the book and explored creating dots using new techniques such as pom pom painting, cotton bud painting and bubble wrap stamps. We had to show courage when using these techniques as some were a little tricky! On Thursday, we then created our final piece dots where we had to pick one new technique to showcase. Stay tuned for the display we will create from the beautiful artwork that Year 2 have produced.

Maths

This week we started to look at representing numbers. We did this by exploring different resources e.g. Base 10, peg boards and chalk. We had great fun with this and came up with some very creative and out of the box ways too. Later in the week, we moved on to writing and reading numbers up to 100 and this will be continued next week.

RWI/ English

The children this week have been completing activities and games with their new RWI or English teachers to get used to not only their new rooms but new adults too. RWI and English lessons will start from Monday.

Love to Learn

Sent home on Friday 9th September to be returned Wednesday 14th September.

For Love to Learn, we would like the children to express in any way that they wish, who is important in their lives. This could be through pictures, photos, writing, artwork… whatever takes their fancy. This links to our new topic where we will be discussing significant people from the past. We will share this learning as a class and celebrate these important people.

Other news:

Monday will be the Sports Project day. Children will need to wear full school uniform this day with trainers.

Tuesday will be PE day. Please can the children come into school in their PE kit. Just a reminder this should be blue or black shorts/ trousers and a plain white top.

Doors will continue to open in the morning at 8:30am. Registration will be at the slightly earlier time of 8:45am (doors close at this time)

Every Wednesday at 3 – Our classroom doors will be open for you all to come in and read with your child, if you wish. Please note, this will be for the full 15 minutes and children should not leave any earlier. Their books will be set up and ready for you to come in and enjoy listening to their wonderful reading.  This will start from Wednesday 14th September.

By the end of the week, reading books would have been sent home, please listen to your child read as much as possible at home and record this in their reading records. Every week, one child from each class will receive a reading certificate in our Chilton Heroes assembly and there are also individual class prizes to be won.
