Weekly news Team Cyan and Team Turquoise W/b Monday 10th January
English
In Guided Reading this week, we have been actors and actresses acting out scenes from the story, we have asked questions about Snail and the Whale, we have looked at rhyming couplets and summarised the story! We have been busy bees!
In English this week, we have been focusing on past tense. We have been writing diary entries and newspaper reports whilst being other characters such as the Snail, the Whale or the children on the beach when the whale became beached. We have become so good at recognising past tense words and using past tense words within writing.
Maths
In Maths this week, we have started looking at using the column method to add.
The children know to always start adding with the Ones number and then move onto the Tens. The children have become so confident with this! We could not be prouder of them :)
Topic
This week we started Passion for Fashion! We started the week with creating junk modelling clothes. We had a lot of fun being creative and also a little bit silly. Year 2 know how to put on a catwalk and strut their stuff!
We then created our very own Chilton jumpers. We could design anything we liked as long as we could explain why is made it better. Take a look at what we created!
Then we started our Art learning of the Topic. We looked at 3 British designers Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood and Thomas Burberry. We discussed things that were similar and different between the three such as their use of patterns, line, shape and colour.
Love to Learn
To follow on from our English learning this week, we would like you to focus on past tense words. The sheet is attached at the bottom of the post :)
Things to be aware of....
- On Friday 4th February it is the NSPCC Number Day! On this day we ask the children come dressed into school in something number themed! This could be a numbered top, make yourself into a number, anything to do with numbers! We will be having a full fay of Maths learning :)
- The Rotary Art competition, there is still time to take part! :)
